SNMCI welcomes statement from QQI

Mr Ian McKenna, Director, Saint Nicholas Montessori College Ireland welcomed the recent statement from Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) confirming the College’s response to the 2010 Institutional Review.

He said:

The recommendations of that report were challenging for the college and my colleagues, but the focus of all has been to respond to them.  I am delighted that the substantial progress made has been positively acknowledged by many external parties including QQI. I can also assure all that we will continue to build on this. “

Referring to the priority now accorded by Government to early childhood education and care, he continued:

“I welcome the publication of the recent strategy ‘Right from the Start’ by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs.  I note its call for the increased professionalisation of persons working in this area.  This will take some time to achieve, but I want this college and its programmes of study to be central to the realisation of this goal.  We are currently working to expand our provision in the coming months which will allow persons currently working in early childhood settings to enhance their existing qualifications.

Our existing and potential students can be confident that our suite of programmes is underpinned by the quality procedures and processes expected of any higher education institution, both nationally and internationally.”

QQI publishes Second Review Report

2 July 2013

On 25th June 2013, the Interim Advisory Group (IAG) in Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) approved the publication of the second review on SNMCI’s continued implementation of the recommendations arising from the 2011 HETAC Institutional Review Report.

The report, which followed an internal review by all staff of the College contained many positives and reflected the determination of the College to embed meaningful quality assurance processes throughout its operations.
This was further affirmed by Mr Danny Brennan, recently retired Registrar of Letterkenny Institute of Technology, who undertook an independent assessment of this report. He concluded that this progress

“has established a solid foundation for the development of SNMCI as the key provider of high quality Montessori Education in Ireland.”

Ian McKenna, Director of SNMCI, welcomed these developments saying

these positive developments, along with QQI’s recent approval of SNMCI’s revised Level 7 and Level 8 programmes are confirmation of the strength of our response to the challenges in the 2011 HETAC report. I, along with my colleagues in the College, look forward to welcoming a new group of learners onto these programmes in the coming academic year. It is vital that their learning experience is positive and rewarding.”

He concluded

“With the increased focus on early childhood care and education, I know that our graduates will be key contributors to improved quality in this vital policy area.”
