The level 7 BA in Montessori Education is designed for learners who wish to embark on a career in Montessori Education and Care (ECEC) for the child, birth to twelve years. It is a broad- based modular programme incorporating Montessori pedagogy and philosophy with the core knowledge and skills necessary to work in the early childhood sector.

The programme also provides training in business skills appropriate for those wishing to set up /manage a small business. Learners are required to complete a significant practicum (500 hours over the three year programme), in relevant settings.

    • Module 1-08: Gaeilge and the Arts (Visual Arts)
    • Module 1-09: Supervised Practice
  • Stage 2

    • Module 2-01: Montessori: Emergent Curriculum 2
    • Module 2-02: Montessori Philosophy
    • Module 2-03: Introduction to Special Education
    • Module 2-04: Sociology of Childhood: Identity and Diversity
    • Module 2-05: Child Protection and Welfare
    • Module 2-06: Social Psychology
    • Module 2-07: National and International ECEC Policy
    • Module 2-08: Gaeilge and the Arts (Children’s Literature)
    • Module 2-09: School Placement

Stage 3 - Award Stage

    • Module 3-01: Montessori Curriculum and Competence
    • Module 3-02: Montessori and Educational Philosophy
    • Module 3-03: Special Education and Differentiation
    • Module 3-04: Sociology: Childhood in Late Modernity
    • Module 3-05: Research Methods for the Early Years
    • Module 3-06: Cognitive Psychology
    • Module 3-07: Introduction to Business Management
    • Module 3-08: Gaeilge and the Arts (Drama)
    • Module 3-09: School Placement
Applicants to this programme must meet normal HETAC requirements for entry to a level 7 programme.
  • Learners presenting with Leaving Certificate are required to have obtained a minimum of a D3 grade in at least 5 ordinary subjects, including Maths and English.
  • Applicants may apply under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), and Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning, (RPEL), and are considered on a case by case basis.
