Module aims:
1.To enable students to critically examine Montessori methodologies with a range of historical and contemporary methodologies of teaching.

2. To assist students to make connections and associations between various teaching
methodologies and curricular approaches and to recognise common trends.

3. To understand the philosophical basis of curriculum methodology.

4. To evaluate Montessori’s contribution to holistic child-centred education.

Indicative Syllabus:

Evaluation of Montessori’s methodology; common trends and influences in contemporary education; philosophical basis for curriculum methodology; influence of Rousseau on child-centred education; influence of Pestalozzi and Froebel; Dewey’s influence on the curriculum; influence of 20th century educators and systems : Steiner, Freinet, Dalton, McMillan, Freire, Reggio Emelia etc.
