Comenius Research Project

 

EYE: Quality in Early Years Education

 

St. Nicholas Montessori College in association with St. Nicholas Montessori Primary School is participating in a European funded research project under the Comenius 2 Programme. The six partners in this programme are:

 

Northern Ireland : Springfield Road Primary School, Belfast.
Ireland : St. Nicholas Montessori College and Primary School, Dunlaoghaire
 Austria : VS Fohnsdorf, Styria, Austria
Cyprus : The Grammar Junior School, Nicosia, Cyprus
Denmark : Lowengskolen, Norresundby, North Jylland, Denmark Finland : Keishlati School, Kuru, Finland.

The aim of the Project is to carry out an in-depth study of quality Language Development in the participating countries. The intention is to explore aspects of language development in good classroom practice and to make video-taped recordings suitable for resource use in the partner countries.

 

Observation sessions in the participating institutions were carried out and video tape recordings made relating to Language Development. Two trans-national meetings have been held, one in North Jylland, Denmark (Oct. 2003) and one hosted by St. Nicholas Montessori College ( Dun Laoghaire, Ireland (March 2004). At these meetings the results of our research were discussed, analysed and refined. The consensus achieved in making the project more manageable and more meaningful was one of the most satisfying aspects of our engagement.

 

The next meeting of the Project will be in Austria in Spring 2005.
