Student Council Fundraising for Typhoon Hayian

On 27th of November Dun Laoghaire Pier was a festive sight as the students and staff of St Nicholas Montessori College Ireland were joined by their friends in St Nicholas Montessori School for a Christmas themed Fancy Dress Fun Run.

The participants young and old came decked in santa hats and reindeer antlers at the behest of the Student Council who organised the event. The event itself was in aid of the Red Cross and their very worthy work assisting those trying to rebuild their lives in the Philippines after Typhoon Haiyan.

En route from the college building in Adelaide Street the merry bunch walked the pier and sang carols, parting with the Montessori School pupils at the bottom of the Pier. The Student Council, joined by their colleagues in the student body and college staff went on through Dun Laoghaire town to continue the fundraising.

It is a pleasure to announce that the amount raised was €4323.88 which the Red Cross will doubtless put to great use to ease the plight of those surviving the horrific typhoon.

Ian McKenna, Director congratulated the Student Council in Saint Nicholas for taking this initiative and thanked the students, pupils, staff and parents for their efforts in raising such a generous donation.  A special word of thanks is also due to the people in Dún Laoghaire who also contributed.
